ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti captured photos of the Might 2022 lunar eclipse from the Worldwide Area Station.

On the night of Might 15, 2022, Earth handed between the Solar and the Moon blocking daylight and casting a shadow on the lunar floor. ESA astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti witnessed this lunar eclipse from the Worldwide Area Station and captured it in a sequence of images.

Throughout a lunar eclipse, Earth’s ambiance scatters daylight. The blue mild from the Solar scatters away, and longer-wavelength purple, orange, and yellow mild go via, turning our Moon purple.
