The Game Awards is always a great occasion. As well as announce the very best titles of the year, it debuts a host of new, exciting trailers for games coming up over the next few months - years even.
Hosted by Geoff Keighley, it's certainly one to put in your calendar. And, for the first time in a while, it will actually have a live audience this year.
Here's when and how to watch it.
When do The Game Awards 2021 start?
The stream will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Thursday 9 December 2021. It will start at 8pm PST (local time). Sadly, that means it'll be 4am in the UK.
Here are the times for your region:
- US west coast: 8pm PST
- US east coast: 11pm EST
- UK: 4am GMT
- Central Europe: 5am CET
- India: 9.30am IT
How to watch The Game Awards 2021
The show will be streamed online - in 4K, no less. We hope to host it here on Pocket-lint closer the time.
It will also no doubt be hosted on the Awards' official YouTube and Twitch channels.
What to expect
Keighley revealed to Epic Games (for a blog post) that there will be the return of a live orchestra, plenty of celebrity guests, but the focus will be on the games - 40 to 50 of them: "You know, it's great to have celebrities, it's great to have music, but I think focusing really on games is important," he said.
"What we really learned last year was at the end of the day, it really is the games and the trailers that drive the show."
He also added that among the scores of game trailers, there will be many premieres, the amount of which could be in the "double digits".
Last year's event was virtual only due to the pandemic, but was still a star-studded extravaganza that lasted over three hours and featured appearances by Keanu Reeves, Christopher Nolan, Gal Gadot, Tom Holland, Brie Larson, and The Muppets. You can watch it below.
