How to watch Microsoft's education event: Surface Laptop SE incoming?

Microsoft is holding an event in November focused on education.

Microsoft said it promises to discuss the latest tech solutions "examining gaps in learning left by the pandemic". If you're wondering why such an event would be of interest to you, consider the fact a Surface Laptop SE recently leaked. It's thought to be a low-cost Surface laptop running a new edition of Windows 11 - called Windows 11 SE - that's aimed at the education market.

So, perhaps Microsoft is using its next event to announce education-related updates for Windows 11, such as Windows 11 SE. Maybe even the Surface Laptop SE will be announced, too. What to expect from Microsoft's event

Microsoft's event is titled "Microsoft Education’s Reimagine". It arrives just over a month after the company released Windows 11, its next major operating system, as well as a wave of new Surface products. Maybe the company isn't done with OS updates and new hardware just yet.

Surface Laptop SE

Microsoft hasn't given up on schools.

In the US, Chromebooks own the K-12 market. If you go to elementary, middle, or high school, chances are you've needed to use a Chrome OS laptop in class and for homework. Microsoft has been trying for years to regain some of this segment, and its latest effort could be its truest Chromebook rival yet.

The software giant is reportedly gearing up to introduce a low-cost Surface Laptop called Surface laptop SE as well as a new edition of Windows 11 named Windows 11 SE - and both will be aimed at the education market, according to Windows Central. The laptop is expected to include an 11.6-inch (1366 x 768) display, Intel’s N4120 Celeron processor, up to 8GB of RAM, and a single USB-A and USB-C port. It'll be ultra-affordable, too.

Microsoft will likely try to offer its new laptop below $400.

Windows 11 SE

As for Windows 11 SE, as we said above, it's thought to be powering Microsoft's rumoured Surface Laptop SE. It sounds like it could be similar to the S versions of Windows 10. Microsoft previously launched a Surface Go laptop running Windows 10 S Mode. It, too, was aimed at K-12 and started at $399.
