A food delivery driver has been caught with five bags of cannabis stashed alongside a McDonald’s meal in his moped.
The unnamed 18-year-old male was stopped in Reading on Wednesday while en route to the customer.
He had no insurance, driving licence or motorcycle safety certificate and also tested positive for cannabis in his system, police say.
The roads policing team wrote in a Facebook post: ‘I’m fairly sure your burger and fries don’t come with a free bag or two of cannabis edibles.’
Officers delivered the food to the ‘hungry customer’ before taking the suspect into custody.
They found the drugs in a Deliveroo bag, although the driver was not working for the company at the time as it does not provide delivery services for McDonald’s, which has agreements with Just Eat and UberEats.
Thames Valley Police said his employer would be informed ‘of the clear food safety issues’ but has yet to identify the company in question.
A spokesperson for Just Eat said they had no evidence linking the driver to the company and were unable to comment further.
Uber, which runs UberEats, has been approached for comment. Deliveroo could not confirm if the driver had worked for them previously.
The driver is believed to have been released under investigation, while his moped, which he purchased a month ago, has been seized.
