Federal authorities have arrested a Russian analyst who contributed to the Steele dossier, which alleged that former President Donald Trump’s campaign conspired with Russia to beat Hillary Clinton.

Igor Danchenko, the primary researcher of the dossier, was arrested on Thursday, sources told The New York Times.

The arrest was part of Trump administration appointee Special Counsel John Durham’s probe into wrongdoing in the Russia investigation, the sources said.

Danchenko provided information to British ex-spy Christopher Steele, whose dossier of unproven claims suggested that Trump and his 2016 presidential campaign were compromised by Russian intelligence officials helping him to defeat Democratic candidate Clinton.

While many of the dossier’s claims are not proven or debunked, the FBI cited it in a secret warrant application to spy on a Trump campaign adviser.

Charges against Danchenko were not clear.
